UPF Unubi Elects New Leaders Through Cooperative Collegial Democracy

UPF Unubi Elects New Leaders Through Cooperative Collegial Democracy

The Unubi Patriots' Forum (UPF) has elected a new leadership structure through the Cooperative Collegial Democracy (CCD) system, in an exercise aimed at strengthening collective representation, accountability and development in Unubi, Anambra State.

The election was held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the Unubi Civic Centre, with representatives from the three villages of Nkwukwo, Etitinabu and Isimba participating in the exercise.

The programme, which commenced at about 1:30 p.m., was organised as part of efforts to consolidate the structures of the UPF and make the forum a stronger platform for advancing the interests and development of the community.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr Ifedioramma Ozoemena said the idea of the Unubi Patriots' Forum was conceived to provide a platform through which members of the community could work collectively for the development and progress of Unubi.

He said the forum had passed through its formative stage and that the time had come to move to a new phase by electing officers who would consolidate its structures and make UPF a household name within Unubi and beyond.

Dr Ifedioramma commended the Advisory Board for its efforts and disclosed that  Fr. Emefiena had been appointed chairman of the Electoral Committee to conduct the exercise. He subsequently handed over the proceedings to Fr. Emefiena and his electoral team.

The election featured 18 candidates, with six candidates representing each of the three villages.

Fr. Emefiena, while addressing participants, apologised for the delay in commencing the exercise and explained the electoral modalities. He also acknowledged the presence of journalists and representatives of Peter University, Achina, who attended the event.

The electoral process was conducted through the CCD model, in which representatives participated in selecting candidates for various leadership positions. Participants were required to vote according to their conscience, while campaigning or communication during the voting process was prohibited. The voting record also provided for the resolution of ties through a draw where necessary.

The exercise produced a number of notable results. Nze Valentine Uzuh emerged with 14 votes for the position of President, while Atusiaka Nwachukwu secured 14 votes for Vice President.

Other results included Umeonigwe Ikenna, who received 12 votes for Chief Welfare Officer; Umeakunne Chidi, 11 votes for Assistant Provost; Anaekwe Sunny C., 14 votes for Treasurer; and Nnakwe Chinedu, 11 votes for Chief PRO.

From Isimba, Obienusi Ossy recorded 14 votes for General Secretary, while Agodu Emeka secured 13 votes for Financial Secretary. Nzekwe Chinedu received 13 votes for Chief Provost, while Oragu, Rev. Canon C. recorded 12 votes for Assistant Welfare Officer.

The voting process ended at about 2:42 p.m. and was described as peaceful and orderly.

The CCD arrangement, as applied in the UPF election, is designed to emphasise collective representation rather than conventional winner-takes-all political competition. The system seeks to ensure that leadership positions emerge from a structured process involving representatives of the constituent communities.

The election therefore marks a significant step in the organisational development of the Unubi Patriots' Forum as the community seeks to build a more coordinated leadership structure capable of promoting unity, accountability and development.

The exercise was held in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts, Social and Management Sciences of Peter University, Achina, Anambra State, highlighting the academic and institutional interest in the application of the Cooperative Collegial Democracy model.
